The Project

Acclimatize is an app that helps users calculate their carbon footprint, set habits and tasks to reduce it and quantify their progress. Acclimatize also aims to further educate users on the topic, encouraging them to take small achievable steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

The Process

Acclimatize initially began with a risk analysis followed up with competitor analysis. These were done to outline the potential pitfalls for the concept and to look at apps with a similar focus and see what they did well. From this I was able to see what Acclimatize could improve upon or do differently.

Following these first steps the project began on an iterative process, all of which I recorded on Notion. Starting with User Journey research, then creating a sitemap of the apps content which would the iterate from initial wireframes to a usable prototype.

Who is it for?

Acclimatize is aimed at primarily two user types, these being young adults beginning their life in the world and older parents with family. From my research, I found that both target groups shared the common goal, both wanting to do more to make an impact on tackling climate change. The problem lay not in lack of wanting to take action, but in them not knowing what they can do. Even if they did have ideas, there was no way for them to quantify their progress.

The Brand

‘Acclimatize’ perfectly captures both the Climate issue, adjusting our ways and adapting to new change. The logo is a combination of an A for ‘Acclimatize’, a leaf and water drop for nature and a speech bubble symbolising raising awareness. The logo was also used to create background visuals to emulate the world around us.

The Overview

Overall, I am very happy with Acclimatize; it has turned out to be very well-rounded project. I have really enjoyed working on this project and it’s been something completely new for me to explore. The process was very enjoyable and certainly not without its challenges. But it is this process of positives and negatives that I have been able to learn from and developed my skills as a young designer. These are skills that I will be able to carry forward onto future projects and how I approach them.
